A GLOBAL ARTISTIC MOVEMENT
Hand by hand, nation by nation, the world is shaping a shared portrait: 193 flags, one film, and a permanent archive for generations to come.
We are a nonprofit creating one of the most ambitious participatory artworks of our time: a portrait of humanity shaped by painted hand impressions from all 193 United Nations member countries. The project unites three inseparable parts: national flag panels, a global documentary, and a permanent archive of every participant’s name and portrait, which together form a cultural record of humanity’s unity and diversity.
THE FIRST 21 ARTWORKS
Since 2009, more than 50,000 hand impressions have been gathered across 21 countries and four continents.
In the early years, artist Marcos Antonio created large free-flowing panels layered with thousands of hand impressions on canvases that captured the spirit of participation but lacked a unifying structure. Through trial and evolution, he shifted the vision toward creating national flags, with each flag built entirely from the hand impressions of local participants. These first works now stand as the foundation of a growing global portrait that continues to evolve.

UPCOMING PROJECTS LAUNCH CARIBBEAN + ASIA + GULF 2026 – 2027
In 2026, Impressions of Humanity will launch its first official projects as a nonprofit, beginning in the Caribbean and continuing across Asia. The journey expands in 2027 to the Gulf countries, carrying forward this vision of unity and creativity.
As each flag is completed, it will be exhibited alongside the 21 artworks already created, building a growing installation shared through museum exhibitions, public displays, and educational programs worldwide.
Together with a global documentary and a permanent digital archive, these flags will carry forward the hands and stories of people everywhere, so future generations can see themselves reflected in humanity’s shared portrait.
THE WORK BEHIND THE PORTRAIT
What looks simple on canvas is the result of thoughtful preparation: travel and logistics, permits and local coordination, and the recording of every hand impression, photo, and story. Your support makes this work possible and helps carry each new flag from planning to completion.
